Our Mission

The Ground Zero Independence Ride was organized by construction workers recovering the site after the 9-11 tragedy in July of 2002. Many of the union members, rescue workers, volunteers, police and firefighters, who spent months recovering bodies from the debris were deeply touched by the families of victims who stood by day-after-day in hopes of finding a loved one. By interacting with these families, recovery workers came to know and understand their grief and the personal challenges of putting their lives back together in some form of normalcy.

To these individuals who were working at Ground Zero, it wasn’t enough just to do their job. Together they organized a charitable motorcycle ride to raise money to aid families. It was their way of saying “We Will Never Forget”.

Tuesday’s Children is a non-profit family service organization that has made a long term commitment to every family that has lost a loved one on 9/11, providing a wide range of needs based programs including Next Steps, Career Paths, Mentoring and First Steps. Tuesday’s Children’s programs are created with one simple goal-to develop and provide the resources necessary to ensure our families reach their full potential.

In July 2004, Diane Nolan, wife, mother, and ride co-founder, passed away. Many will remember Diane’s tireless devotion and generous and loving spirit, at Ground Zero where she frequently went to support her husband, Gregg, and on the rides. A second passion of Diane’s was Anderson House, a halfway house for women recovering from alcohol and drug addiction in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, where she worked as a devoted Residential Aide and Counselor-in-Training. Diane touched the lives of Anderson House clients and staff deeply, sharing her compassion, huge heart and zest for life freely and unconditionally. To honor and remember Diane, this year the Ground Zero Independence Ride will also benefit the courageous women in recovery at Anderson House.

The Ground Zero Independence Ride brings together the people who were so close to the events of 9/11 and are still working to help make a difference. The spirit of compassion so apparent everywhere after 9/11 has not died; it lives on through the giving of these construction workers and in the sponsors, participants, and riders in the Ground Zero Independence Ride.

This year on Saturday, July 28, 2007, patriots and motorcycle enthusiasts will enjoy a scenic ride beginning near Ground Zero and ending at Krucker’s Grove in Pomona, NY. The ride leaves from "The Cross" at Ground Zero - Church and Vesey St in Lower Manhattan at 9:30AM and travels to Krucker’s Grove. There, riders will enjoy an old-fashioned American BBQ with a variety of live music, hearty food and beverages – all included with the entry fee of $50.00.

Live music with The Dan Lawson Band, Bike Games, Silent Auction, Custom Motorcycle Show, Vendors and more!

The party starts at Krucker’s Grove at 10:30AM and goes until 6:00PM!

Ride, Drive, Push or Pull your vehicles, bring your friends and family, and come on out!
